A Mind to Work

Nehemiah 4:6
So we built the wall, and the entire wall was joined together up to half its height, for the people had a mind to work.

As we know, Nehemiah together with the children of Israel set about to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. For those not familiar with the story of Nehemiah, when the walls of Jerusalem were  in ruins, through the inspiration from the Holy Spirit, he set about to build it up. Nehemiah 4:6 states that the entire wall was joined up to half its height because “the people had a mind to work”. The building up of the wall took place fast because the people were united in their outlook toward their goal of building the wall.

There must have been hundreds of people. Even among them, there were people from different tribes, families, etc. Yet, when it came to this particular task, their hearts were united and hence they worked in harmony.  God needs this type of unity and harmony from His children. Today, we see and hear of fellowships dissolving and having problems because the much required unity of the Spirit is not among them. We praise and worship the same God and yet are often quick to judge and complain on different matters pertaining to the church.

The Church is His house.

We are children of the most High and members of the Church. Unless there is unity among His children, we cannot expect a spiritual growth to take place neither in our individual life nor in the church. Let us learn to love our fellow brothers and sisters. Forgive those who need to be forgiven, help those who are in need, deal with our fellow church members with patience and love, etc. Where the love of God flows, peace is sure to reign and we will be bound by the unity of the Spirit.

God bless.

Be Ready Always

Nehemiah 4: 17
Those who built on the wall, and those who carried burdens, loaded themselves so that with one hand they worked at construction, and with the other held a weapon.

The story of Nehemiah is all too familiar to most of us. Nehemiah had a vision to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem and he, along with the children of Israel set about to do it. However, it was not an easy task. Along with the physical burdens associated with the task, they also had to face adversities from their enemies. They were not daunted by that but instead they kept on at the work in hand. It says here that with one hand they worked at construction and with the other they held a weapon to attack the enemy when the need comes. Christian life is similar. Even when we live and do things necessary for leading our life here on earth, we are in a constant warfare with the enemy. We do not know when or how the enemy will attack. That is why a child of God cannot afford to be careless at any time. We need to be alert at all times. We need to equip ourselves with weapons of spiritual warfare in order to fight the enemy without which it is impossible to lead a victorious Christian life. Our weapon against the devil is God’s Word. Meditate on His Word daily. It is sure to lead you to Christ and to claim victory over Satan through Jesus Christ. A child of God whose foundation is firmly rooted in His Word can withstand any attack of the enemy and remain undefeated in the face of trials and tribulations. Make sure you have eaten from His Word today. God bless!
