His Thoughts For You

Isaiah 55:8-9
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord.
“For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are My ways higher than your ways,
And My thoughts than your thoughts.

The Bible says that the way we think and behave is never the same as His, and how true that is. His ways are mysterious! Nobody can even begin to understand them. Sometimes difficult situations may come in our lives that may seem senseless to us. They may even cause us to do and say things we would never have done in normal situations. Though God allows it to happen for our own good, its often not easy for us to accept them.

Samson was appointed by God as a deliverer for Israel (Judges 13:5). He was God’s selection. His story is familiar to us. Due to certain bad choices he made, he ended up in the hands of the Philistines who degraded him very badly (Judges 16:21). God had specifically commanded Manoah and his wife that no razor should ever touch his head. The day he does, the Lord’s spirit will depart from him and he will be like any other ordinary man. But that’s exactly what happened (Judges 16:19).

Just when it seemed everything was hopeless, we read in Judges 16:22 “ the hair on his head began to grow again after it had been shaven”. The Philistines knew that Samson’s strength was in his hair. Yet not one person in the entire land of Philistine had the common sense to shave his hair again after it started growing. Not even one person thought that his strength would come back when his hair started growing again. Can you imagine what would have happened if they had continuously shaved his hair? The entire story of Samson would have changed. He would have died an ordinary death.

Even though nobody thought of him, God didn’t forget. He remembered His calling towards Samson (Judges 13:3-5). He closed the common sense of the entire nation of Philistine just for one person – Samson. And finally even in his death, glory was brought to God. As the whole land came to view Samson’s death, it ended up as their own funeral (Judges 16: 28-30). If God could do that for Samson, why not for us?

Does your situation seem like there is no hope? Do you feel like you are trapped in your condition and there is no way out? Believe in God and His power. Believe that He can perform miracles for you. Believe that He can change the law of a nation for you alone. Believe in the impossible and trust in Him.

Samson’s Anointing!

Judges 16:20

… but he did not know that the Lord had departed from him.

Samson had the Holy Spirit resting upon him from his birth. He performed feats normal people could only dream of. In his body, the Holy Spirit manifested supernatural strength. With his bare hands, he could rip open animals and performed many such deeds. But probably he never realized the seriousness of his gift. In Judges 16, we read that he fell in love with the wrong person – Delilah – a woman from the land which God had specifically told not to associate with. However, clearly from her character we can understand that she never truly loved him or she would never have agreed to play a part in his capture. Even though she begged him to reveal the secret of his strength, he didn’t initially open up about the matter but due to her constant nagging, finally ended up giving in to her demands. The verse that we read above is – He wasn’t even aware that God’s presence had left him – so blinded was he.

Just like Esau sold his birthright for a morsel of food, Samson sold his anointing due to the wrong decisions he made in his life. He could easily have avoided it. He was , after all, anointed with the Holy Spirit and knew right from wrong. But, sadly, he chose not to obey the Spirit but instead he allowed his thinking to be shrouded by his lust and it ultimately led to severe consequences.

Sometimes, we too go through similar situations in our Christian life. There are certain things which should never be entertained in the life of a child of God. There are times when we should be able to firmly say – “NO”.

James 4:7
“Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

We must have the strength to avoid the unnecessary distractions that come our way. Anything that makes you compromise on your Christian life is to be avoided. Is there anything that is hindering your walk with God? Take a moment to analyze your life and cut off anything which prevents you from enjoying an eternal relationship with your God.
